The Heart of Bhakti Yoga: Japa

Discover the ancient practice of mantra meditation to open the heart to Divine Love.

Ancient Practice for Modern Life

Imagine a life where you have a deep sense of peace beyond the fluctuations of the mind.

To find this real peace and truly transform the mind, Satguru Paramahamsa Vishwananada has given us the daily practice of mantra chanting, aka japa.

By chanting the Name of God, we attune ourselves to the Divine, awakening this eternal Love in our hearts and mind with each breath.

Meditation Centered in Love

Mantra - meaning protection for the mind - is a simple way to meditate that focuses our attention on the Name of God.

The Name of God is really just pure, boundless Love. Every time we chant the Divine Name, something inside us softens. A bit of our heaviness is lifted and slowly, that love begins to wrap around us quietly, gently, day after day.

Mantra meditation is one of the simplest ways to let this happen.

“The more you chant, the more power of the mind will decrease, the more you will be in divine bliss, and the more your heart will open to divine love”

Satguru Paramahamsa Vishwananda

Project Mantra

By repeating a mantra softly or aloud, the mind stops running in circles, and the heart gets a chance to breathe. It’s a very grounding practice, especially if meditation usually feels difficult or if your mind always seems a little too busy. If this touches you in any way, we’d love for you to join us.

We’re offering a free 40-day guided mantra meditation, a small space each day to reconnect, settle in, and let the Divine Name work inside you in its own time, in its own way.

Come just as you are.
The rest will unfold naturally.

Our Mantras

When you chant a mantra, your mind focuses on the Divine, instead of jumping from one thought to another. This simple repetition helps quiet the mental chatter and brings your attention inward. Over time, your mind becomes calmer and more stable, like a lake settling after a storm.

As you repeat the mantras below, your heart naturally opens, bringing feelings of peace, love, and connection. Even a few moments of chanting can help you feel centered, supported, and closer to something greater than yourself.

Paramahamsa Vishwananda has given us two mantras to chant each day:

  • śrī viṭṭhala giridhāri parabrahmaṇe namaḥ

Meaning: ‘My obeisances to the Supreme Lord, who is the refuge and protection of everyone.’

This mantra calls upon the Divine to help transform your mind from chasing love on the outside to finding it within your own heart. It holds the frequency that awakens our unique, loving relationship with God.

  • om namo nārāyaṇāya

Meaning: ‘Om, I give respect to He who is in all things and who has all things inside Him.’

This mantra calls upon the Supreme Consciousness that is the source of all creation. It can help you realize God’s presence and Love in everything and take you on a journey to discover your true self.

Why Mantra Meditation?

  • Inner Transformation

Chanting the Divine Names changes you from the inside out and it brings you peace, clarity and patience. As these qualities grow, you will relate differently to the world around you. Little by little, one chant at a time, things will begin to change, and your life will get better and brighter, both inside and out.

  • Divine Connection

Chanting the Divine Name is the most direct way to connect with God’s presence. The Name is not symbolic—it is understood to carry the living presence of the Lord. By chanting, the heart naturally turns toward loving remembrance and relationship with the Divine.

  • Spiritual Awakening

Chanting with love purifies the heart and awakens bhakti (devotion) already within. As attention rests on the Name, the ego slowly softens and inner clarity arises. Awakening happens gently, through grace, not force or effort.

  • Anytime, Anywhere

The Divine Name is accessible to everyone at all times. There are no external requirements—only sincerity and remembrance. Whether spoken aloud or silently, chanting allows devotion to continue seamlessly through daily life.
